UPS Guard Bonus Rip-off

UPS Guards are paid approximately $9.75 per hour, that’s your wage! When Guards get hired they are not the truth about their hourly rate, the Guard Bonus and how it really works. Often they are told they will get $12.00-15.00 per hour BUT that’s not true. The truth is guards are hired at the minimum wage of $9.75 per hour and may receive $3-$5 per hour for the Guard Bonus depending on where they are assigned to work.

Because the guard bonus is not included in your wage UPS does not pay overtime on the Guard Bonus. YOU LOSE MONEY!

Because the guard bonus is not included in your wage UPS also has not included the Guard Bonus on your vacation pay. YOU LOSE MONEY!

Because the Guard Bonus is not included in your wage UPS has not included the Guard Bonus when calculating your stat holiday pay. YOU LOSE MONEY!

This also affects your EI and CPP meaning that should you need to collect you will receive less because they did not include the Guard Bonus in those deductions.

In short they are subsidizing themselves by disguising over half of your hourly income in a bogus bonus system which is costing you a bundle!

Through our investigation into the Guard Bonus we found the UPS pay system and calculations to be inaccurate and confusing. UFCW Local 401 would like to assist Guards with complaints against UPS for their eroded pay system.  However, STEU currently represents UPS Guards working in the Edmonton area.  Therefore you must inform your STEU Representative of these issues. Please contact James Holmes at or 905-521-1178 or Tony Losak at or 905-520-9932.

If you are unable to get a hold of these representatives or the matter remains unaddressed, please contact UFCW Local 401 at 780-499-6887 or memberorganizer3@ufcw401.ab.caso that we can help you access your rights under the Alberta Labour Relations Code.
