UPS UPDATE August 16, 2012

Most of you have probably noticed that effective the end of July, there were union dues deducted from your paychecks. According to Specialty and Temporary Employees Union (STEU) and UPS you all voted 62% in favor of STEU. When was this vote? Who is STEU? Why are they taking money off your cheque without your authorization? These are questions no one seems to be able to answer.

STEU Union Representative James Holmes has been going around to the various sites talking to guards about STEU with UPS Manager April Stone. Do you really think your Union Representative should be hanging out with your manager?

During captive audience meetings planned by your employer, James Holmes could not even answer your simple questions about how the vote was done and how you became STEU members. This is not a real Union, this is a company chosen storefront, not who UPS guards have been telling UFCW Local 401 they want to represent them.

On August 16, 2012 we filed yet another unfair labour practice complaint against STEU and UPS. We believe that STEU broke many of the rules in the Alberta Labour Relations Code in regards to the organization process. UPS employees did not have a chance to take part in the negotiating of the Union Contract or even to vote on it! You never authorized any union dues to be taken off your check or had any say in how much those dues are. You have rights and those rights have been infringed upon.

We are asking that the Alberta Labour Relations Board  rule the STEU-UPS Union Contract be declared invalid. We also ask the ALRB to order that STEU stop deducting union dues from your paycheck and those dues that have already been deducted to be given back to the UPS employees.

STEU does not act on behalf of its members and is not fit to represent UPS employees.
We are the Security Guards Union in Alberta.
