G4S November Negotiations Update

The third set of negotiations between the members of UFCW Local 401 and G4S Security Services took place in Edmonton between November 19 and 20, 2014.

The union bargaining committee met with the company negotiators early Wednesday morning to review and finalize proposals exchanged during previous negotiations on October 8 and 9, 2014.

“We accomplished a lot over these last two days. We believe that we were able to secure some good contract language to protect workers’ rights at the work place,” said UFCW Local 401 President Douglas O’Halloran.

In the next round of bargaining with the employer, UFCW Local 401 will continue to negotiate monetary proposals such as wages, overtime pay, benefits and travel allowance amongst others.

Negotiating a fair contract is a process and time will be needed to guarantee that UFCW Local 401 can achieve the best possible protection and benefits for G4S Security workers as we have been working to do.

When asked about the negotiations process, G4S bargaining committee member, Leopold Finnerty said, “On every set of bargaining dates it was satisfying at the end to see how much we got done, and this last set of negotiations was not different, we felt that we accomplished a lot.”

The next set of negotiations with G4S Security Services will be held on December 10 and 11, 2014.
