Statutory Freeze

It has come to our attention that G4S Company may be changing work practices for its guards such as changing your location of work and taking away benefits that you had prior to the Application for Certification ect.. .  The Company has also changed its attitudes towards people who have joined UFCW Local 401. These actions may be violations of the Alberta Labor Relations Code. 

It is very important that instances of the above issues are communicated to the union as we will file complaints with the labor board in every instance to ensure comliance with the freeze. 

G4S has also come out with a letter stating that the union does not represent G4S security guards because there has not been a certificate provided by the Labor Board.  They go on to state that you are not obligated to talk to the union and emphasize specifically that you are not allowed to talk to the union on work time. 

WE COMPLETELY DISAGREE WITH THE ABOVE.

The union is allowed to communicate withG4S guards during their breaks, lunchtime and after hours, regardless of whether guards are paid for those breaks or not.  The union feels very strongly about representing guards just like any members’ during the period between voting and counting the votes.

YOU HAVE RIGHTS AND AS A UNION WE WILL ENSURE THAT THEY ARE NOT TAKEN AWAY FROM YOU.

As far as UFCW Local 401 is concerned….G4S GUARDS ARE UNION MEMBERS.

FILLING OUT YOUR SURVEY

G4S would have you believe that you are not obligated to fill out the forms and you are not. However, we would like for guards to do so as we would like to have your input into establishing a new Union contract.  Don’t be afraid and don’t delay because we want to get on with it!
