THE CLOCK IS TICKING!!!!! TICK TOCK, TICK TOCK...

UPS preparation for Strike Please find attached the Mediator’s Report outlining mediations between UFCW Local 401 and UPS. (Click Here for a PDF of the Report) It is apparent that the Mediator could not help bring the parties together to resolve the monetary package. With the Company basically offering nothing, it is apparent that a strike will occur.

As the Mediator’s Report explains, there is a cooling off period of 14 days beginning May 29, which puts us in a strike or lockout position beginning June 12. Your Union is prepared to go the distance to get you a fair Union Contract. We have been transparent and up front with you by ensuring you know what your strike pay will be.

You will be asked to participate in a strike vote around the middle of July. Notification of the vote will be provided to everyone.

PREPARATION FOR THE STRIKE

We must all work together to prepare for the strike. Here are a few tips to consider:

  1. Medication – if you or members of your family have monthly prescriptions, we suggest that you obtain 3 months worth of those prescriptions in advance of the strike.

  2. Dental – if you or members of your family are considering major dental work, you should have prior approval before the strike or hold off until the strike is concluded. During the strike, Local 401 will look after you for minor incidents.

  3. Purchases – put off any major purchases until the strike is over. Purchases to put off include: a new house, a new vehicle, a new television or other major appliances, ect…

  4. Savings – put some money aside in preparation for the strike.

  5. Communicate – stay in communication with your fellow workers in preparation for the strike vote. This is your opportunity to get better wages, benefits, and job security and communicating with your fellow workers will be key to winning.  It is also key to communicate with your family and friends about what is going on.

  6. Company Coercion – the Company will try to coerce and intimidate you with rumours such as it is being sold or it is in danger of losing its contract and needs to hire more workers to undercut your hours. Hold fast to your desire to be treated like other Guards. That is our goal!

  7. Report – be vigilant and report any anti-Union activities to Union Representatives immediately.

This is your chance to be heard.  BARGAIN STRONG TOGETHER FOR A FAIR UNION CONTRACT!
